What filers get caught by here
- No local civil forms exist; Appendix B/C local forms list contains only criminal, traffic and one family form.
- At filing the clerk gives plaintiff: conformed summons/complaint, Notice and date of CMC, and a 'Notice of Filing Complaint and Dispute Resolution Packet' (Local Rule 4.7(A)). Rule 4.7(B) requires only the CMC notice to be served with summons; the ADR Information Package PDF is captioned 'Notice to Plaintiff(s) and/or Cross-Complainant(s)' citing CRC 3.221 but does not itself state a service requirement.
- Local Rule 4.5: complaint must be served AND proof of service filed within 60 days or OSC re sanctions issues; Rule 4.6: default must be requested within 60 days after response deadline.
- Rule 4.7(D): counsel and self-represented parties do NOT attend the initial CMC in limited civil cases unless ordered.
- E-filing available since Feb 10, 2025 for civil, family, probate, small claims via EFSP; PERMISSIVE, not mandatory (Local Rule 5.2(B); e-filing FAQ). Fax filing no longer accepted after March 14, 2025. Any ex parte application filed concurrently with a new complaint must be filed in PAPER (excluded from e-filing).
